The Edit: Holiday Glam Edition

With the holiday season coming up quickly, there’s nothing that I love more than getting dressed up for whatever the occasion. For this reason, it’s so important to have classic staples in your wardrobe that don’t take too much effort to help pull together a look.

The obvious ones, being a classic LBD, nude pumps etc. But for the holidays, I like to incorporate classic styles that have a slight twist to their usual silhouettes or unexpected details. Each of these pieces are appropriate for any event; work, play or somewhere in the middle.

There is something so enthralling when a brand produces an advertisement that encompasses such beauty and artistic conception it becomes iconic in it’s own. I haven’t been able to stop watching this short film produced by Baz Luhrmann for Chanel. It’s a perfect representation of the difficult roles women struggle to transition between and balance. See the full film below.

When you’re lacking Inspiration…

With only a few blog posts, I’ve already felt the woes of writers block. With that said, I’ve found that there’s nothing more liberating then opening with that type of honesty, especially since it’s something that we can all relate to. I think it’s important to flow with the creative process and embrace writers block as a very evident element to the process, rather than resist against it.

Consequently, there are so many sites that I look to for inspiration, that am now deeply obsessed with since starting this blog. A few of my favourites have been mentioned below, and whether it provides nothing more than a scroll for you, or sparks a sense of inspiration in yourself I hope that you enjoy!

Hot Yoga Will Change You

Living a healthy lifestyle can mean many different things to different people. For me, I prioritize my health because the physical and mental benefits are invaluable to me. I’ve found that a person’s depth of self-respect is reflected in the ways in which they treat their body. One of my favourite things to do in the colder months is practise Hot Yoga.

Hot Yoga has always been a deeply intimate experience for me. It’s an outlet, an escape and a way for me to disconnect and detach from the other aspects of my life such as work, school and a busy social life. It has allowed me to look at life from a different perspective, influencing what I believe to be beautiful and prioritizing what’s important in life.

A regular hot yoga class gives me mental clarity that is incomparable to how it’s also toned and defined my body. Mindfulness is something regularly mentioned during a session, and that conceptual thinking has become a daily practice for me. Becoming aware of your mind, body and soul can impact your life drastically.

This practice enables a higher emotional intelligence by honouring the experience of your emotions without influencing your power to choose a response or reaction towards other areas of your life and the relationships that matter to you.

Equinox produced one of the most gorgeous videos that perfectly illustrates and encompasses the fluidity, artistic and balletic elements in a regular practitioner. Take a peek!

The Importance of a Signature Scent

“Perfume is the indispensable complement to the personality of women, the finishing touch on a dress.”
– Christian Dior

As with anything, luxury is always depicted in the details. There are few things more memorable than a beautiful scent that lingers well after a woman has walked away. The fragrances we choose can quickly create a chronological timeline of our life, acting as an extension of who you are, where you’ve been and where you plan on going.

More importantly, a signature scent becomes an extension of self; something that those you love are able to recognize as you. It becomes a form of identification that varies upon emotional fluctuations and important life events that inspire evolution.

In Oscar de la Renta’s words, “I say a fragrance should become part of your identity… When I want to smell that fragrance, I want to recognise you by it,” he told StyleList. It’s artistic in itself, and is a minute way for women to illustrate their self-love towards themselves, and their choices in how they wish to be remembered.

We live in a generation which is comforted by labels and stereotypes, this blog serves as a paradox to that. Possessing a sense of aesthetic snobbery is something we all develop, to some it may be superficial or vain, but to others; it’s art, culture and indulgence. Art in any form is a production of the creative mind.

An ‘about’ section should provide a description, but anything creative and artistic is not so easily defined. The content derived in this blog, is meant to be fluid, it’s meant for anyone who is able to develop their own individual relation of themselves to it. If it provides, inspiration, distraction or a different perspective, than it’s made a small impact on your life in which I hope you are able to interpret into the weave of your own life and share that beauty with others.

“Design is the method of putting form and content together. Design, just as art, has multiple definitions; there is no single definition. Design can be art. Design can be aesthetics. Design is so simple, that’s why it is so complicated.” – Paul Rand
